Kaua’i - day 1

We got to our villa at about 10 PM Friday night and went right to sleep. Not astonishingly, we woke up at around 7 AM, dozed for a while, then went and had breakfast at a place called Joe’s on the Green that gets its name from the golf course it sits next to. I related my not-so-favorable views on golf over a tofu scramble and fresh orange juice.

After that we grabbed some snorkeling gear, a couple sandwiches, snacks, plenty of water, and hit Poipu Beach which sat a short walk from our villa. We snorkeled in a sheltered coral reef a short swim out from the beach and saw many amazing types of fish. The most fascinating one I saw was a huge unicorn fish, with a horn several inches long. I tried to keep my distance but stay with him/her but he/she was too quick and disappeared. It was then I started to regret not bringing the underwater camera we had bought earlier.

As it turns out, snorkeling can be a little tiring, so we lounged on the beach for a while afterwards, reading and soaking up the sun.

For dinner we went to Keoki’s Paradise: mushu pork, Asian seared ahi, mango rice, and shrimp. Everything was good but didn’t really blow us away. The ambiance was quite nice, though.

After eating all that food we went back to the villa and succumbed to the food coma.

It was beautiful the whole day - 80 degrees and sunny. Overall first impressions of Kaua’i: awesome awesome awesome = awesome x 3.
