It’s very satisfying to wake up and find the code you wrote the night before didn’t crash and ran with no errors while you were sleeping.

Brute force SSH attacks are pathetic. Don’t you have anything better to do than try to break into my servers and fail, over and over again?

Learn to Let Go: How Success Killed Duke Nukem →
A fascinating read with many lessons to be learned for those that manage large software projects. While reading, I couldn’t help but think that George Broussard could have benefited from a few of the elements of the Cult of Done Manifesto.

Yelp Walks Away From Google Deal, And Half A... →
mikehudack: hilker: phew. This strikes me as one of those cases of entrepreneurs and board members getting a bit too optimistic. Five hundred and fifty million dollars is nothing to sneeze at. It’s a lot of money. It would have (presumably) made the founders rich, delivered some nice cash to employees and given Yelp’s investors a nice return. Yelp is now moving forward on its own...

Avoid future disaster with InnoDb + MySQL
InnoDb is a storage engine in MySQL that provides lots of nice features as opposed to MyISAM. If you’re using the InnoDb table type in MySQL to store lots of data, you should be aware of this configuration key: innodb_file_per_table With that added to your my.cnf configuration file, MySQL will place each InnoDb table into its own data file instead of putting them all into a single data...

schlomo: mikehudack: matchesmalone: The argument to make is that it’s Fair Use. You’ve posted it on a site that allows commentary, and you’re creating a parody. Case closed. Next? This isn’t fair use. At least not as far as I can tell. It’s not a parody. It’s not a transformative work. It couldn’t exist without the copyrighted material. It’s an exploitation of the material. You can’t...

“As for Chokehold, people keep asking me if I think it will succeed. My answer is that it already has. Have you seen the coverage of this thing? It’s all over Twitter. Tonight it hit the Wall Street Journal. Who knew there was so much anger out there? As far as I’m concerned, it’s mission accomplished.”
